Old Updates

May 9, 2010 - Last Friday, my friend pointed out that I had promised in the About Me page to upload a video of myself solving the Rubik's Cube. That has finally been done! (Yes, that's Tyson Mao in the video!) I have also rewritten the About Me page, partly to bring it up-to-date, and partly to remove all the silliness.

March 25, 2010 - Well... this is an update to say that there have been no real updates recently. Second semester of senior year is not as relaxing as I thought (even with me deciding not to take any AP tests). I fixed some typos and errors in Steps 6 and 7. Thank you Royce for pointing them out!

February 3, 2010 - Yesterday, I didn't have to go to school until noon (yay!) so I used the morning to change hosts. I had two computers side by side. For some reason, one was accessing the old server while the other was accessing the new one. Now both are accessing the new one. I had to make a few changes for the website to run properly; however I may have missed some. If you notice any errors on this website, please let me know! Also, Step 2 of the beginner solution has been icube/java-ified.

February 2, 2010 - If you see this update, then that means the transfer of hosts is complete! Please let me know if any pages are missing.

January 30, 2010 - You may notice that Step 3 of the beginner solution is a little different. I switched from imagecube to icube because the latter is a lot more flexible. Also, the link to "Java cube applets to demonstrate the algorithms" has been replaced. Instead of going to a new page, you stay at the same page; the only difference is that the images are changed to Java applets. One of my plans during this "second semester senior" period is to do this for all the pages on the website. Also, I added on a reference sheet that I had made for my school's math team. Check it out in the page on printable solutions!

December 16, 2009 - This isn't cube related, but... Sorry, no real update this time! But once college applications are finally over, I don't think I will be able to come up with any more excuses! I actually have several planned things to put up.

September 1, 2009 - Ahhh!! College application time! It seems like I'm always busy with something... Well, I did make a few minor updates today. I fixed an error in the printable solution. One of the diagrams in Step 5 was repeated. (Thank you Hal!) Also, I got rid of Comic Sans from my website. I'm not a very "graphical designer-ish" person but a certain people have said that the font isn't appropriate for this website and I trust their artistic intuition. =)

April 19, 2009 - I had planned to update ths website during spring break. Today is the last day of my spring break. I spent about two hours today adding and changing a few pages. The Get Faster page has been completely rewritten. Now it contains techniques to help you improve your time instead of just telling you to learn more algorithms. The old Get Faster page is now the Faster Methods page. Additionally, I have started writing a page on how to solve the last layer without algorithms. My current draft is at this page but it not very helpful right now. I need to add some diagrams and examples but I do not have time right now. AP testing is coming up in a few weeks! (If you want good scores on your AP tests, you shouldn't be trying to learn intuitive last layer right now anyways! :P )

January 23, 2009 - A few days ago, I decided to take an average of 5 Rubik's cube solves using only the beginner method on this website. My average time was under 30 seconds. This shows that, unless you are aiming for world record speeds, learning a faster method is not required. I put this fact in the "get faster" page, but I still need to elaborate. I'll do that when I find time. (As some of you may know, next month is the beginning of "AMC season" and I want to do well! xD)

June 13, 2008 - Hey everyone! Sorry for not updating for a really long time, but summer is here! Today is my first day of summer vacation and I already started improving this site. (You can see how dedicated I am! xD) So far, I have two major updates. They should not be very noticeable, so if you didn't notice anything, that's great! First of all, I moved this site to a new host. I felt that if I ever needed to upgrade my hosting plan, the new host would be better because it has more options. Second, I rewrote the entire layout, replacing all the table's with div's. Actually, I did this a long time ago, but there were so many weird things happening and I didn't have the time (nor the patience) to find out what was wrong. Right now, there is one major issue with this layout. It doesn't work with Internet Explorer!!! Sometimes the menu headers are white instead of green! And I have no idea how to fix that. I don't think this is a huge problem, but if it bothers you, switch to Firefox!. xD Of all the browsers I tested, only I.E. has this problem. Oh, and I have no idea how to fix the div clearing problem on the Beginners Intro page.

January 20, 2008 - I updated the printable solution. Right now, I'm also trying to un-table-ize my layout. Yes, I knew that using tables for layouts is bad, but I did it anyways. Shame on me... But for some reason, I suddenly decided that I would get rid of them, so here I am. And I'm planning to do something with the big "Learn2cube.com" title that's on top of each page. Everytime I see it, I'm always thinking "OMG it looks sooo plain!!!" and it does. Lastly, for anyone who might find this helpful, I had my PLL page up for a long time now, but I never really put it out in the public. You can probably see why. The pages are just a whole bunch of PLL cases and their algorithms. Nothing special...

December 26, 2007 - Happy holidays everyone! Thanks to people who have emailed me, I learned of some potential sources of confusion in steps 6 and 7 regarding the notation. I have updated those pages so hopefully those mistakes won't be made again.

October 2, 2007 - I changed some parts of step 5 to explain the set-up easier. I completely rewrote step 6 because I felt that I had over-complicated it. (Is that even a word? xD) I also made some minor changes, including updating links to websites that moved locations.

August 16, 2007 - It's been awhile since I've updated. I put the advanced cross page up. It explains the cross more in detail than the page in the beginners section. I got stuck in a horrible history class where we watched movies everyday so I didn't get to add as much as I planned over the summer.

April 22, 2007 - I added the "about me" section, but it's not complete, and put up the Overview and F2L pages of the Fridrich method. The F2L page is not complete and might have errors and bad explanations. If something is confusing, please contact me.

April 9, 2007 - I changed how step 5 is presented so that it looks less cramped, and also made some minor changes to the other pages. It's spring break for me right now, and I plan to finish at least the F2L page this week.

December 28, 2006 - Whoops, I accidentally deleted the AnimCube file yesterday so that's why the applets weren't working. -_- They should be fixed now.

December 27, 2006 - I broke the link page up into separate pages because I thought that page was too big. I also fixed some errors in the solution and changed some of the algorithms for step 2 into ones that I thought would be easier. Then I added java cube applets to demonstrate the algorithms for steps 2 through 7. (Props to Josef Jelinek for making the script!) I hope that it makes things clearer. =)

December 20, 2006 - I literally spent the entire day today working on this website. I added the "about me" page and "get faster" section, although the section is very rushed and probably will not be completed in the near future. For now, it just explains what steps you should take to get faster. The "about me" page is rushed too. After adding the "get faster" section in the menu, I realized it was getting too long and made some pages longer than they should be. Then I thought of a solution - collapsible menus! The only problem was that I don't know how to use JavaScript. Actually I know how to use 'alert' and 'document.write' and that's about all, but those aren't very helpful. =D Soooo... I spent some time looking on the internet for a script for collapsible menus. I found some that were way too complicated so I couldn't configure them for my website. Then I found one on this page which was much simpler, but it didn't work properly. I tried to modify the code and some code on my website to make it work, but it was hard with my lack of JavaScript skills. That took a long time too. Now my head hurts... xD

December 2, 2006 - I removed the advanced and about me sections from the menu because I currently don't have time to make them. I've also updated the links page with a few more speedcubing links.

November 28, 2006 - I have completely redone the layout so now it looks better (IMO =D), but now it's a big mess. I added a menu on the side and broke the solution into separate pages for each step. The advanced sections probably won't be up in a long time because I don't really have time right now to add them. I still need to make a banner to put at the top but I have absolutely no Photoshop experience. xD

November 12, 2006 - Finally! I changed the domain name! I had been planning to do this like a year ago. Thank you Patrick (aka guyperson) for the suggestion of this name! =)

August 19, 2006 - Added a PDF version of the solution.

August 17, 2006 - After checking out like a million books from the library about HTML and CSS, I decidied to try them on the website to improve the look. I'm currently trying to male the last layer states pictures look better than the ones I drew with MS Paint two years ago.

March 29, 2006 - Changed hosts again! Now I get to use the domain name! Yeah, the domain isn't that good, but my dad won't let me register a new one until this one expires... Anyways, in the solution, I changed the tables so they look more organized.

February 22, 2006 - I fixed some of the broken links in the solution and added more to the extra stuff section. I realized the top of this page still had the link of the old website so I changed that too.

January 22, 2006 - Moving this back to geocities... the other host is down too much.

August 9, 2005 - I moved the site from geocities.com to 1asphost.com because it provides more space and bandwidth. I also created a few more pages like this one, with an easy navigation at the top.

November 6, 2004 - I finished writing the solution.
